Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (P.B.I.S.)

As a part of “No Child Left Behind”, school districts are asked to implement a research-based/data-driven behavior system. Rantoul City Schools has chosen to become a part of the PBIS system.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture and needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.

As a Response to Intervention model, PBIS applies a three-tiered system of support, and a problem-solving process to enhance the capacity of schools to effectively educate all students.

PBIS Celebrations
Another component of our PBIS system is our celebrations! These celebrations are used as another way to reward students for showing the expected behaviors every day. There are a few different ways we will be celebrating positive behavior this year. The Thunderbird award is an award that is given once a month. The classroom teacher will nominate students who have shown outstanding behavior that month. The selected students’ names will be announced in the morning assembly and they will get their picture taken with the Mr. Englishharden, the principal. They will receive a Thunderbird Award certificate We will also have quarterly celebrations for the students that have zero office discipline referrals for the entire quarter! The celebrations will be on the last day of the quarter. Students will get to do a fun activity for approximately thirty minutes. Each celebration will be different and exciting! The students that earn office discipline referrals that month will stay in the classroom during the celebration. At that time, a staff member will do a lesson to re-teach the behavioral expectations. We want to use this time to make sure students understand what we expect of them here at Pleasant Acres. We will also have a celebration the last week of the school year for the students that have zero office discipline referrals for the whole year! We are currently working on the details of this celebration. We will let you know when we decide what/where the celebration will be. Occasionally, we will have school-wide celebrations to reward all students for showing positive behaviors! These celebrations might be something the staff puts together for the students, or it might be a performance/assembly from a professional group (i.e., educational theater groups, special act performers, etc.). We will let you know when we schedule these assemblies, so you can talk with your child about the fun things going on at school!
